Yumm, Could someone please pass me more of that liberal media?

Published by bluesistersredstate at 3:34 pm under Politics Edit This

You cannot go ten steps in any given direction without hearing someone complain about the liberal media. To summarize what seems to be the general consensus of those complaints, “No our candidate is not a liar and an idiot, the liberal media is just painting them that way.” Or, “Don’t believe a word you hear, it’s the liberal media talking” (says Fox news).

I guess that my response to that is, “I LOVE YOU LIBERAL MEDIA!” Please come and infiltrate my state’s television and newspapers!

One of the top stories in my local newspaper a few weeks ago was on Sarah Palin. The paper is the Idaho Statesman and the article was titled, “State Lauds Unfamiliar Daughter.” Since she has ties to our state the local journalists went out to find people that knew and remembered her. What they found was that….. no, rather than try to eloquently summarize the article I will just quote it directly: “You never felt that she was too good for anything. But at the same time I never saw her drunk or act stupid or skip a class or betray a friend. I mean, she’s just so rock solid.” Another was that she “has real good common sense.” One conservative was very impressed by Palin’s Christian testimony.

Most of the people that article mentioned barely remembered Palin. For one person with vague (yet fond!) memories of the governor it took days after Palin was announced for her to recall that they had been best buddies in the past. The resounding voice in the article was; we don’t really know her or anything about her, but she is one of us so we like her.

I personally don’t care where she is from, that she didn’t skip class or if she is a Christian. I feel that it takes a great deal more than, “real good common sense” to run this nation. She could have been my next door neighbor and I still wouldn’t support her.

I get the sense that many conservatives want someone “just like them” to run the country. I don’t. It is that I am not an unintelligent person. I have always received good grades and have excelled at anything that I set my mind to. I cannot say that I have never gotten drunk or skipped a class (and if that is what stands between me and being the Vice President so be it). It’s just that I don’t feel that any of my sterling qualities qualify me to run my country. No, don’t let the next elected official be someone just like me. Let them be SMARTER than me and worldlier than me. I want that person to have a better knowledge of the law, and be more interested in what the constitution has to say than the bible (as an aside while mentioning the constitution I want to say that it was written by Christians that knew that using religion to dictate law would only lead to discrimination and tyranny).

To get back to my original intent for writing this blog and end my ramblings in any organized fashion I say, yes there is some liberal media out there. But there is also a conservative media. And while many find themselves distrustful of what they see and hear on the nightly news, its liberalness is far exceeded by the conservative crap that I am forced to read and watch on my local level. So conservatives turn on Fox news or allow the drug addicted voice of Rush Limbaugh to lull you into sleep and shut the hell up about the liberal media.

But…but…but…if they couldn’t fabricate a liberal media, they’d have to accept facts as the truth, and that would make their heads explode. Can you imagine what would happen after that? Do you know who would end up responsible for cleaning that mess?

Illegal immigrants! That’s who. More American jobs going to the illegals. Tsk, tsk.

Thank Jeebus for Keith Olbermann and Rachel Maddow.

I just got through reading the book “What liberal media” by Eric Alterman. It pretty much calls out the republicans on their total B.S. of this subject. Good read.

Very true. The major networks and newspapers usually take the right-wing’s side, just not as blatantly as Fox News or Rush Limbaugh. If the media is so “liberal”, why did they give such support to invading Iraq, and why are McCain’s scandals quickly forgotten while Obama’s are repeated again and again?

No matter what media form you are reading/watching/listening to there is going to be some bias. That is why it is necessary to listen to a variety of opinions and try to find the facts (which is probably a mix of the very left and the very right).

I don’t care either way. Just don’t call yourself fair and balanced. It’s a universal, secular sin!

Thanks for your very thorough comment on my blog! Very thoughtful, love it!
